Macon County is located in Western North Carolina and is home to Franklin (County Seat), Otto and Highlands. Surrounded by US Forest Service lands, Macon county is rich with hiking trails, waterfalls and rivers for kayaking and white water rafting. Highlands, which is located at over 4000ft elevation, is home to some of the best golfing, dining and shopping around in all of Western North Carolina. With Highway 441 going straight through Macon county, it is perfect for those coming from Atlanta and all points south of there. Highway 64 will either take you to West to Tennessee or East into the Forest ending up near Hendersonville. Macon county also has it's own small airport for those people who wish to fly in and stay for awhile.
